fifi.cooking is a free, non-commercial memorial archive of the recipes of Dr. Fatma Alkawokgy (1943–2026), kept by her family and maintained by her son, Ahmed Abdel Aal (“we”, “us”). These terms cover the website fifi.cooking and its subdomains, the fifi.cooking apps (Android, iPhone and iPad, Apple TV, Fire TV and Samsung TV), and the public data files they read (together, the “Service”).
By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay.
Different parts of the archive come from different sources, and their rights are different:
| Collection | What you may do |
|---|---|
| Dr. Fatma Alkawokgy's family recipes (chapters 1 to 6), the Cooking with Kids recipes written for this site, her biography and the memorial pages | Free to use, copy, adapt and republish for any purpose, dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0 where the law allows. Credit is appreciated, not required. |
| Recipes credited to other cooks, books, channels or websites (for example Osool El Tahy, Egyptian Cooking by Samia Abdennour, the Fatma Abu Haty channel, Chef Teta, and the World Cuisines recipes) | Shown with credit to their source for personal, non-commercial cooking and reference. We do not grant any licence to them; their rights stay with their owners. Facts such as ingredient lists and quantities are generally not protected by copyright, but the wording, photos and videos may be. |
| Translations, nutrition and cost estimates, dietary and allergen labels | Free to reuse under the same terms as the recipe they belong to, with the warnings in the disclaimer. |
| Pictures of dishes | Most are generated by an AI image model as illustrations, not photographs of the actual dish. You may reuse them under the terms of the recipe they illustrate. |
| Source code | MIT licence, see LICENSE. |
| Names, logos and the names “fifi.cooking” and “Fifi Recipes” | Do not use them in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product. |
Videos shown in the Videos tab are hosted and owned by YouTube and their creators; they are shown through YouTube's own player under YouTube's terms.
Please do not: use the Service to break the law; attack, overload or try to break into the Service or the services it relies on; scrape at a rate that degrades it for others (the full data is already published openly on GitHub); pass off the credited third-party collections as your own or republish them commercially; or misrepresent the recipes as certified, tested or endorsed by us.
Recipes are shared as a family and cultural record. They are not professionally tested, and the labels and estimates around them are automated screens. Read the disclaimer before relying on anything here, especially for allergies, health conditions, religious dietary rules, or cooking with children. You are responsible for how you prepare, store and serve food, for checking product labels, and for supervising children.
The Service links to grocery and delivery stores, event sites, YouTube and other websites, and the apps are distributed through app stores. We do not control them, are not paid by them, do not endorse their products and are not responsible for their content, prices, availability or privacy practices. Your dealings with them are between you and them.
These terms apply to the apps together with the terms of the store you downloaded them from (for example the Apple Media Services terms and Apple's standard licensed application end user licence agreement, Google Play, Amazon Appstore or Samsung). For the Apple apps: these terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support and is not responsible for claims relating to the apps; if an app fails to conform to any applicable warranty you may notify Apple for a refund of any purchase price (the apps are free, so there is none); and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on a U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
The Service is provided free, “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including about accuracy, completeness, safety, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components.
To the fullest extent the law allows:
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, and nothing takes away rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the place you live, such as the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, the consumer laws of other Canadian provinces, the laws of the European Union and its member states, the United Kingdom, Australia, or a U.S. state. Where such a law applies, the limits in sections 7, 8 and 10 apply only as far as that law allows.
If you use the Service in breach of these terms or the law, or republish its content in a way that infringes someone's rights, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and liabilities this causes us, except to the extent we caused them. This section does not apply to you if you are a consumer in a jurisdiction that does not allow it.
If you believe something on the Service infringes your rights (for example, you own one of the credited collections and want it removed or credited differently), or is illegal, please follow the copyright and content notices page. We act on valid notices promptly.
The Service, including the Cooking with Kids section, is suitable for families. Children should use it with a parent or guardian, and an adult should supervise any cooking. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children; see the privacy policy.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the place you live, and you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of that place. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. Before going to court, please write to us so we can try to resolve the problem informally.
We may change the Service, stop it, or change these terms. Changes are published on this page with a new date, and the history of every change is public in the repository. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver. These terms, the disclaimer and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If these terms are translated, the English version governs to the extent the law allows.
